So the Boston Bruins, holder of the # 1 spot stroll into MSG on the heels of a big 5-3 win over the Blackhawks yesterday. National TV, Biggest Stage in Hockey, Rangers coming off a big win vs the Islanders. It had all the recipes for disaster for the Rangers.
However our heroes in blue came out firing. They came out hitting, shooting and doing all the things needed to be a Cup Contender. Our heroes for the first 40 minutes of action looked like a # 1 seed.
Then, the wall hit, and out came the third period, Uncle Tom Renneys Rangers. Slow, no hitting, missed assignments and UN-Clutch Goaltending from the king. All of a sudden, 40 mins of great hockey went down the pipe in 4 mins ,as the Bruins knotted the game up at 3.
And here is where the new Rangers showed their colors. They didn't fold, they didn't crumble, they didn't even stray course under General Torts. No, instead they continued to weather the storm.
Now, a lesser team would have folded, as we have seen with the Rangers this past year. We didnt, we stood tall, took the bruins best punch , and stood tall. Kudos to our heroes.
Now, Ill give you that some of the goals scored over the recent games have been somewhat flukes. But at a certain point, the Hockey gods will reward you for your hardwork. That's whats happening folks, the Rangers are getting greasy, they are getting tough, they are winning those battles that don't show up on the stat sheet. In short, they are playing solid playoff hockey.
Manny Fernadez was brutal. Bruin fans have to be discouraged by that. On the flip side, how nice is it to finally run into a goalie who didn't morph into a in his prime Ken Dryden.
On to Carolina , who has put up 15 goals in their last 2 games. On to Carolina, where the biggest game of the season is to be played tomorrow night.
The Hurricanes are coming folks, but today we saw the Rangers do their best Jim Cantore impression by weathering a storm. Tomorrow, they will need to continue to channel good ole Jimmy if they want to get into the playoffs for a slice of Stanley's Pie.
