So what went wrong this season?

In the coming weeks, many will ponder what went wrong. Most will point to the offense and the Power Play and they would be correct.

But those people will just say that and not give you a base for that criticism. Here, at Up In The Blues, we will.

  • We have the least amount of PP goals at 36 on 5 on 4 situations

  • 5 on 3 - we are at 6 goals ( ranks 12th )

  • 4 on 4 - we are at 9 goals ( ranks 6th )

  • 5 on 5 - we are 123 goals ( ranks 26th)

  • we are 191 goals for the season ( 2nd to last ) and 2.42 goals a game ( 2nd to last as well )

On the flip side

  • we are 6th in goals against - which ranks us 6th.

out of the teams ahead of us

1- Boston ( Thomas has been awesome , no doubt - so has Fernandez )

2 - Minny ( plays a Renney style system )

3 - San Jose ( great goalie, GREAT OFFENSE ) - we would be with San Jose if we had an offense

4 - Devils - ( doesn't matter who is in net, team just knows how to win in the regular season )

5 - Chicago ( starting to come back to earth, but this team has an ABUNDANCE of youth, and is how you rebuild in a only a short period of time )

6 - NEW YORK RANGERS

Powerplay

  • 2nd worse in the league at 14.3%
  • 47 PP goals ( T-29th in league )
  • 14 short handed goals allowed ( 29th in league ) - only team to allow a 5 on 3 goal
Now, some will be quick to point out Hank has been less then stellar in recent weeks, and that would be true - but lets look at the overall picture.

  • Wins - 35 ( ranks 5th )
  • GAA - 2.46 ( ranks 12th)
  • Shots Against - 1913 ( ranks 5th)
  • Goals Against - 163
  • Saves - 1750 ( ranks 5th)
  • Save % - .915
  • Total Ice Time - 3rd in the league
Out of the 5 goalies with the most minutes, here are there GAA

1 - Turco - GAA 2.82
2 - Kipper - GAA - 2.84
3 - HANK - GAA - 2.46
4 - Backstrom - GAA 2.33
5 - Cam Ward - GAA 2.44

  • In shootouts, Hank is 9-4 this year ( Best in the NHL )
  • Out of his 32 losses, 28 of those the Rangers have scored 2 goals or less
  • 6 of those have been losses when the Rangers were shutout
