Glen Sather Bails out Pocklington - Conspiracy Theory

According to sportsnet.ca - Glen Sather has posted 1 million dollar bail for his old chum Peter Pocklington.

New York Rangers general manager Glen Sather has posted US$1 million in bail for former Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington in California court. Pocklington pleaded not guilty earlier this week to bankruptcy fraud charges.

First - call me nuts ( you wont be the first ) - but I have a conspiracy theory about Sather. Let me shoot from the hip here.

When Glenny Boy was in Edmonton, he was a cherished hero. He was the father figure to many of the legends of the Oilers Dynasty. Messier has often called him a 2nd father.

Now, for a moment, step outside the box and wonder how you would feel if another person offered your child more money to come live with them , and you couldn't do anything about it, but you know for his/her future, its in their best interest to accept that offer, since you can no loner provide the luxuries being offered.

Sure, you would be happy to see them succeed, but inside be seething and curse those people who stole your loved ones.

Well, this is how Glenny Boy and co. in Edm must have felt when they had to trade away piece by piece their dynasty to the Rangers ( and Gretz to LA ). Imagine if you will, how scorned Slatzbee felt when he announced to the world " Id win more cups if I had NY's Budget"

Really Glen? You would? How many more cups? Like 0 more?

Sorry, moment of anger, back to subject at hand. So, now in the early 90s, the NY Rangers ransack the Oilers for all of the quality players. Two of those players now have their numbers retired to the rafters at MSG ( Messier and Graves ) and the others were key parts to the success and cup of 94 ( Beukeboom, Lowe, McTavish, Glenn Anderson).

Fast Forward to 2000 - Slatzbee is out as GM of Edm and searching for a Job. Neil Smith is out as our GM in NY.

And Jimmy Dolan is the big cheese in charge. Jimmy D, who knows NOTHING about hockey or its rich history. So what does Jimmy D do, he throws the barn at Slatzbee.

Slatzbee sees this as a chance to destroy the Ranger Franchise the way the Rangers destroyed his franchise.

Now, keep that in mind when you see the dealings, drafting and player development that has happened since 2000.

Here are the facts folks

  1. The Great Purge of 2003 netted us a 4th line center and backup goalie. The players we traded away included a Legend ( Leetch ) and Greg DeVries ( who is better then any Defenseman not named Staal or Mara we have ).
  2. His draft record has been putrid. After the Hugh Jessiman debacle, he should have been immediately thrown out of hockey.
  3. His Free Agent Signing Record - for lack of better words - SUCKS! But hey, give him NYs Budget and we all will have Stanley Cups for toilets.
  4. His Coaching Track Record has been iffy at best ( Renney was great, Torts is great). He hired Bryan Trottier cause he WROTE 8 PAGES!!! Is that all that was needed to be the next suit behind the bench?
  5. Hes called out the Ranger faithful for being too hard on his players. Blamed us for the losing ways.
In a future post, ill get into greater detail on all of this.

OK, you can now take off your tin foil hat now.
