A quick note - Playoff Preview on the Way !

Its well established my disdain for Glenny Boy.

But alot of the blame has to be directed at James Dolan who gets googly eyed over a big name. To say it was JUST Sather who signed those players in the first 4 yrs would be completely wrong. Dolan had a mandate for big names, regardless of the cost. Same theory applied to the Knicks.

Now, The game may have passed Sather bye. And he certainly does himself no favors by being hidden at all times. Also didn't help he blamed the fans the year before the lockout.

The Leetch saga also put a major dent in the mans credibility in the eyes of Ranger Fans as well.

Do I think Sather should be the GM past this year? No... I agree his time is up. But I don't think he was a total failure, all joking aside. He did start a decent rebuilding process ( one that could have been done better, but hindsight is 20-20). He signed the wrong players to the wrong contracts.

But Raise of Hand, and be honest, if you thought July 1st, 2007 wasn't seen as a coupe with Drury and Gomez. I wasn't totally sold on Gomez, but I wanted Drury really bad.

I was wrong, Sather was wrong. What makes those moves worse were the contracts he handed out to Naslund, Redden and Rosival this past offseason with the remaining cap space he did have. That's where Sather totally lost the fan base. ( or at least 99% of it ).

Prior to this season, the Fire Sather talk had died down to a whisper. When we started 10-2, it was quiet. Now a full season under our belts, and the look of the future ( cap wise ) looking bleak, its easy again to point fingers at Sather, and rightfully so. He is the president of the team.
